General Information on Water Ionizer Operation and Maintenance

Basic Operation - [TOP]

Gold Fox Water Ionizers come with 3 feet (1 meter) of 1/4” plastic non-toxic tubing, and 3 feet of white hard plastic tubing. The gray 1/4” tubing is used for the outlet on the bottom of the unit. The tubing is attached to the outlet and then draped into your sink for proper disposal of the acid water. The white hard plastic tubing will connect to the diverter on your sink and the other end to the inlet on the side of the ionizer. All Water Ionizers produce both Acid and Alkaline Ionized Water simultaneously, 70% of the water coming out the silver stainless steel flexible Tube, 30% of the Water coming out of the plastic hose from the bottom of the unit. Ionization occurs by water running over positive and negative electrodes, which produces positive and negative ions that are then separated into alkaline and acid water.

Start drinking Ionized Water slowly - [TOP]

Because it is very detoxifying since ionization reduces the size of the water molecule clusters making it significantly more hydrating than conventional water. Classic detoxification symptoms are headaches, rashes and diarrhea. If you experience any of these symptoms, put the ionizer on a lower level (numbers 1 or 2) for several days till the symptoms end, then begin slowly drinking higher ionization levels till you reach the highest level. Ionized Water ideally should be consumed between pH 9.5 - 10. It is strongest when it is fresh therefore it should be poured out and drank immediately as often as possible. However, it can still be consumed hours and even days after it is produced.

Do not drink ionized water from the silver tube if unit is beeping - [TOP]

Because acid ionized water is coming out of that tube. When the unit is beeping, the unit is in cleaning mode, meaning that acid water is coming out the silver tube and alkaline water is coming out the bottom tube that drains into the sink.

To make Ionized Water stronger - [TOP]

Place the ionizer in the strongest mode by hitting the pH buttons (the higher number is stronger water), slow the flow of the water down so it takes 20-30 seconds to fill up an 8 ounce glass of water. This gives the water more contact time with the electrodes and makes stronger ionized water. If you see many small bubbles in the water, this is an indication that ionization is taking place.

Filter Information - [TOP]

Filters should be replaced approximately every 6-14 months depending on water conditions.

The only way to know for sure if the carbon filter is used up is if you taste chlorine in the water after it has gone through the water ionizer or to test for it with a chlorine test kit such as those used to measure pool chlorine levels.

How to Install Your Water Ionizer - [TOP]

Gold Fox Water Ionizers come with a Faucet Diverter that attaches to the faucet by removing the aerator from the faucet and screwing on the Faucet Diverter. You do not need to give up the use of your sink when you install your water ionizer. Once you have attached the Faucet Diverter to your faucet, you can continue to use the sink as you normally do, then divert the water into the Water Ionizer when you wish to use it by turning the black handle on the Faucet Diverter. The Faucet Diverter that comes with your unit is a standard 15/16" (27 thread) male fitting, which fits most standard faucets. Everything else you need will be included with the unit when you receive it.

We do not assume any responsibility for the installation of the Water Ionizers we sell. Nor do we assume responsibility or additional costs for the purchase of plumbing hardware expenses that may be incurred during the installation of any of its products, including Water Ionizers.

If you have threads inside the faucet (female threads) you will need a 15/16" Male Adapter (27 threads - 9D). This can be purchased at any hardware store and is a very common item. If the threads are slightly smaller than the 15/16" Faucet Diverter, you may have a 13/16" faucet in which case you will need to purchase a 15/16" X 13/16" adapter. These are also commonly available at hardware stores.

Where to Install Your Water Ionizer - [TOP]

Water Ionizers can be installed at any sink in the house, most commonly in the kitchen or bathroom. Gold Fox Water Ionizers can sit on the counter or can be hung from the wall next to your sink. Mounting instructions are included in your Goldfox owners manuel. Water Ionizers will not work properly if one attempts to operate it from underneath your sink.

Gold Fox Water Ionizer Installation - [TOP]

Step 1: Screw in Stainless Steel tube to the top of the unit.
Step 2: Remove aerator from the faucet and attach Faucet Diverter to Faucet.
Step 3: Wrap the Teflon tape provided around the inlet elbow then screw the elbow into the inlet hole on the left side of your unit.
Step 4: Attach the white hose to the Faucet Diverter and the other end into the pressurized inlet elbow.
Step 5: Attach the gray hose to the bottom of the Water Ionizer labeled OUTLET and drape the tube into the sink.
Step 6: Plug the unit into an electrical outlet.*
Step 7: Turn on the faucet and begin running water through the unit.

Typical installation takes approximately 10 minutes and usually does not require a plumber to install.

The most difficult faucets to attach a water ionizer to are designer faucets. Often they are simply not suitable for use with a Water Ionizer because the fittings are unusual sizes. Since there are dozens of these types of faucets on the market, we are unable to supply the fittings that may be required to install a water ionizer to these faucets. If you are unable to find the proper fittings for your designer faucet, you may want to consider hooking up the Water Ionizer to another sink in your house. The term hard-plumbed means to attach the Water Ionizer directly into the water line instead of at a faucet with our Faucet Diverter. Plumbing supplies can be purchased at any hardware store; however, plumbing expertise will be needed for direct connection into your water line. Gold Fox Water Ionizers come with a universal fitting that will allow you to attach the unit to many, but not all, types of faucets such as bar faucets that have no threads on the end of them to attach anything to. Please be aware, however, that this type of fitting quite often leaks and is not recommended for long-term use. Besides hard-plumbing the unit directly into your water line, you can also attach your unit to a Gooseneck Faucet . This is a small faucet usually installed at the right corner of the sink and is often referred to as a drinking water faucet. To use the water ionizer with this faucet, slip the end of the feed-line, which attaches to the INLET of the back of the unit, over the end of the faucet then secure it with a 1/4" screw-type hose clamp that can be obtained at any hardware store. If you wish to use water that comes in 5 gallon bottles of water, we offer the Flojet BW1000A Bottled Water Dispensing System. This on-demand electric pump will allow you to pump water through your Water Ionizer from several feet away. All that will be required is a 1/4" hose clamp to be used at the connection between the Water Ionizer and the Flojet BW1000A. You will need to operate the Flojet BW1000A manually when using the dispenser in this way, turning it on and off each time you wish to use the Water Ionizer.

* Water Ionizers should always be plugged into a GFI safety plug whenever possible to guard against electrocution.

Prefilters - [TOP]

If you use municipal water, you can use a pre-filter with a carbon filter either under the sink or on top of the counter. We offer one-micron carbon block filters, carbon ceramic half-micron (.5) filters and housings. We also have iron and sulfur filters available. With sufficient filtration, most municipal and well water can be made both good tasting and drinkable.

If there is very little water coming out the tube that drains into the sink (the acid tube)

The unit may need cleaning because of mineral build-up on the electrodes. This should not become a problem until at least 12-24 months of use. The safest way to clean the unit is to recirculate vinegar through the unit for 2-4 hours using a small fish tank pump or garden pump. The unit must be unplugged from its power source while cleaning the unit in this manner. We can provide complete cleaning instructions if you should need them.
